Investigating the drivers of territorial differences in poverty and inequality: a study of household composition and in-work poverty
This research explores territorial disparities in poverty and inequality by examining the interactions between labor markets, tax-benefit systems, and household composition. Cross-country differences in household structures shape income distribution, positioning the family not only as a potential source of economic vulnerability but also as a key determinant of inequality levels. A central focus of the study is in-work poverty (IWP), a condition shaped by labor market dynamics, social policies, and regional disparities. Standard national indicators often fail to capture local complexities, particularly in highly unequal contexts.
By integrating IWP with low-wage measures, this research sheds light on sectoral and territorial differences, offering a more comprehensive understanding of poverty and inequality.
